Owners Rob and Elizabeth Nowell had been traveling to Norfolk Island since 2000 and decided to move to the island permanently in 2009. They purchased the property called Central Garden Apartments in June 2009, with a vision to build an accommodation property which set new standards of excellence on Norfolk Island. The three-and-a-half  years of building and renovation began. 

The project called for both local and international tradespeople and many of the design techniques used during the transformation enabled the local tradespeople to collaborate with international experts and acquire new skills and work with new technologies. 

Rob and Elizabeth worked with local artists who created the bespoke art pieces for the apartments and the gorgeous mosaics scattered through the gardens. The gardens, which Elizabeth designed around the scarlet colour found in the local foliage, create a sense of place and provide a peaceful, private outdoor space for each apartment.

The vision for The Tin Sheds – Norfolk Island is to provide excellence in accommodation.
